Since its inception two years ago, the Sports Neurology Section of the AAN has become one of the fastest–growing and most active sections. Many members have been actively involved in the neurologic evaluation of athletes for decades while others are just becoming familiar with the need for increased participation of neurologists in sports.
The excellent course offerings in the field of sports neurology will hopefully be expanding at next year’s annual meeting. Based on feedback from our meeting in April, it appears that two areas of potential expansion will involve clinical research and advocacy.
I hope to continue the work started by our first chairman, Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher. I also want to urge all the members to take every opportunity to make other neurologists and medical students aware of the potential to become a part of this growing and dynamic group.
