The AAN's peer-review journal Neurology® ranks first in a survey of 41 neurology journals. The survey conducted by the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) and published by the Journal of the Medical Library Association indicates that the Academy's journal was among an elite number of neuroscience journals that were "rated much more highly than the others." The WFN study implications indicated that the "high correlation between journal ratings and the journal impact factors suggests that the journal impact factor could be used to assess journal performance in the field of clinical neurology."

The study concluded that the survey results could help researchers and clinicians identify potentially desirable research outlets, indicate journal status for editors, and may also prove useful for biomedical librarians in developing serial collections.
