December 31 is the deadline to earn the 2012 incentive payment of 1 percent from the Medicare Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program. In 2013, the incentive amount will drop to 0.5 percent.
To successfully report under the 2012 eRx Incentive Program, neurologists must generate at least one eRx associated with a patient visit on 25 or more unique events during the 2012 calendar year using the G–code G8553.
In addition to earning a 1–percent incentive payment, successful participants also will avoid the 2014 eRx payment adjustment. This payment reduction of 2 percent will be deducted in 2014 from the physician fee schedule amount for covered professional services furnished by the eligible neurologist who is not a successful e–prescriber.
An eligible professional who e–prescribes successfully for the 2012 eRx Incentive Program will be considered exempt from the 2014 payment adjustment.
