Care Delivery Subcommittee

Prepares members to practice in the environment of value-based care, developing models and resources to support efforts for practice transformation.

Job description

Committee responsibilities

  • Define practice delivery models and strategies for integrated neurological care (i.g., care coordination, access to care, care transitions between neurology and other specialties within neurology—pediatric to adult)
  • Develop qualitative case studies of neurologists participating in value-based initiatives to highlight accomplishments and share lessons
  • Identify and forecast sustainable care delivery models for the future detailing high priority areas and articulate necessary resources or funds to carry out priority work.
  • Educate members about value-based care and care delivery initiatives (e.g., team-based care, medical home, accountable care organizations)
  • Work with partners to ensure there are alternative payment models (APMs) for neurologists
  • Respond to requests for information and proposed rules related to value-based initiatives (e.g., BPCI-A)
  • Conduct annual environmental scan of value-based initiatives across regulatory, legislative, and private sector and prepare summary report for AAN and Health Policy Leadership

Member responsibilities

  • Attend one in-person meeting per year and three to five conference calls.
  • Participate in the subcommittee listserv discussions, provide input on timely issues, check and respond to email at least once a week.
  • Copy AAN staff on all subcommittee-related correspondence.
  • Submit status reports to AAN staff prior to the agenda deadline for each subcommittee meeting and provide a report to full subcommittee at the meeting.
  • Fulfill one or more advocacy or coordination roles outside the usual subcommittee work and meetings.

Selection/appointment

Appointments are made by the AAN president.

Meeting schedule

The subcommittee meets in person one time per year. The subcommittee also has hour-long phone meetings approximately three times a year.

Estimated time commitment

Ten hours per month, one face-to-face meeting, and the remaining work takes place by email and/or conference calls.

Committee composition

Subcommittee includes 15 members, including the following:

  • APP
  • Small/solo practice
  • Non-academic practice
  • Experience with payment/delivery system reforms with Medicare
  • Experience with payment/delivery system reforms with commercial payers
  • Experience in risk adjustment
