Time Running Out to Complete 10 Electronic Prescriptions for Medicare Patients by June 30 and Avoid Penalty in 2012

AAN members who wish to avoid penalties and increase their incomes by prescribing electronically need to meet a major milestone by June 30.

The Medicare Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program offers a 1-percent incentive in 2011. However, a 1-percent penalty based on your 2011 activity may be charged in 2012 if you don’t meet a June 30, 2011, deadline.

Learn how to get the e-prescribing incentive, avoid penalty.

In order to avoid this 1-percent penalty on 2012 Medicare reimbursements, eligible providers must provide 10 electronic prescriptions for Medicare patients during qualified clinical encounters (i.e., evaluation and management visits) by June 30, 2011. Similarly, eligible providers must complete 25 electronic prescriptions for Medicare patients during qualified clinical encounters by December 31, 2011, in order to earn a 1-percent incentive in 2012 and avoid a 1.5-percent penalty in 2013.
