Free AMA Webinar on October 27 Can Help Neurologists Weigh Medicare Participation Options

October 19, 2010

With the potential of a 30 percent cut in Medicare physician payments by January 1, 2011, this year's Medicare participation decision weighs heavily on the minds of many neurologists. Now more than ever it is critical that you understand your options when reviewing your Medicare participation status.

Review exactly what those options are as part of a free upcoming webinar from the American Medical Association (AMA): "Understanding Your Medicare Choices: Preparing for the 2011 Medicare Participation Decision."

During the webinar, participants will learn about your various Medicare choices:

  • Participate in Medicare
  • Do not participate in Medicare
  • Opt out of Medicare and privately contract with patients

The webinar will describe the advantages and disadvantages of the three options and walk participants through an example of how payments are calculated under each one. It is scheduled to take place at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, October 27.

Participants will also be introduced to a number of resources, including a worksheet that calculates the revenue impact of changing from "participating" to "nonparticipating" status and sample communications that physicians can use when explaining their Medicare participation to patients.
