Involve Your Patients in Health Care Reform Advocacy

December 7, 2009

With many voices weighing in on health care reform, the Academy has developed a sample message that members may give to patients interested in advocating on behalf of neurology. This draft letter highlights the Academy's primary objectives in health reform legislation and advocates for preserving access to neurologists. Members who choose to download this letter are encouraged to tailor the language to fit their needs, as well as copy and paste it into their own template. Another resource that may be helpful to patient and caregiver advocates is a brochure entitled "The Critical Role of Neurologists in Our Health Care System."

Above all else, people with neurologic disease should recognize the importance of sharing their personal stories with legislators. These stories will help legislators understand the vital role of neurology and the significance of preserving access to specialists.
