February 15, 2007

The Board voted to endorse the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine position paper entitled "Proper Performance and Interpretation of Electrodiagnostic Studies" (Muscle & Nerve, March, 2006) on September 22, 2006. The paper takes the position that electrodiagnostic studies should be performed only by physicians properly trained in electrodiagnostic medicine and that it is in the best interest of patients, in the majority of situations, for needle EMG and NCS examination to be conducted and interpreted at the same time.
