Dear fellow neurologists and AAN members,

As 2008 opens, we are looking to continued progress in enhancing the Education Section of during the coming year. Developments have occurred in several areas and users of should look forward to significant changes in the next few months.

Committed Editorial Board

I am pleased that my efforts in editing the Education Section will be supported by a talented Editorial Board selected from the Education Committee. Members are Barney Stern, MD, FAAN, Linda Selwa, MD, FAAN, Steven Lewis, MD, FAAN , Sung Lee MD, and Joseph Safdieh, MD.

Online Learning

The Distance Learning Subcommittee has brought two important online learning opportunities to The Test Your Knowledge feature is a regularly updated feature at and allows members to quickly gain new information in a fun and challenging format. The Self-Assessment Examination (NeuroSAE) is now available on This self-assessment examination of 100 on-line questions is aimed at helping neurologists assess their level of knowledge as they take steps toward fulfilling their Maintenance of Certification requirements for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Search Annual Meeting Education Courses

More than 170 Education Courses will be offered at the 2008 Meeting in Chicago. An easy-to-use search engine can search the database of courses by topic, keyword, day of week, or course director. This search engine can be found at

Upcoming Improvements

Here are some of the things we are working on:

  • Improved pages for Residents, Students, and Fellows. We working actively with residents, fellows, and students to improve the content, navigation, and usefulness of their pages.
  • More content in the Digital Resource Library. The goal is to make this a significant resource for neurological educator and clinicians.
  • More resources in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) area of We will bring members more resources to help them prepare for the MOC.
  • More education news. Watch the newsstand for the latest updates in Education at
  • Improved navigation. We are looking at making it easier to navigate the Education Section.
  • Timely topics in education at Authors. Watch Authors for upcoming articles on timely topics related to Education at the AAN.
