Attendees from 19 states and from Australia and India were selected to participate in the sixth annual Donald M. Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, held earlier this month at the St. Regis Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Forum’s newest group of graduates will spend 2008 implementing advocacy action plans that were developed with the guidance of Forum physician alumni.

Each year, the Forum delivers award-winning grassroots organizational programming, media relations training, and advocacy planning skills to a new group of neurologists each year. Attendees from 19 states and from Australia and India were selected to participate. Highlights of the four-day session included:

  • Participants created an action plan (view a sample) to guide their personal efforts in 2008: topics ranged from developing neurosocieties in Missouri, New York, and Oklahoma; to enhancing community care for patients with dementia; to passing epilepsy drug-safety legislation.
  • For the first time, participants included an active Board of Directors member, Academy president-elect Robert C. Griggs, MD, FAAN
