EHR Demonstrations at Annual Meeting to Compare Vendors

January 29, 2008

The AAN EHR Chart Challenge, a structured vendor demonstration, will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the 2008 Annual Meeting in Chicago. Attendees can watch six EHR (electronic health record) vendors complete a script of a neurology patient and rate them according to their ease of use, functionality, and appearance of record. Vendors participating in the ratings contest are Inc., eClinicalWorks, e-MDs, GE Healthcare, MediNotes Corporation, and Sage Software Healthcare, Inc. These vendors will also be present in the Technology Showcase area of the Exhibit Hall so attendees can examine the products more closely.

According to Orly Avitzur, MD, MBA, FAAN, Chair of the Electronic Health Records Work Group, "Over the last two years, we have received many requests from members to open up the demonstrations to those interested in selecting an EHR. This is a rare opportunity for us to evaluate which vendors fare best on documenting neurology-specific notes and to assess their products' relative strengths and weaknesses from the unique perspective of what is important to us as neurologists."

Neurologists and practice managers who may be considering implementing an EHR system in their office are encouraged to attend. The EHR Chart Challenge is free and open to all meeting registrants.
