Health benefits company, Wellpoint announces plans to rollout a physician rating service for patients. Last October, WellPoint announced its intent to collaborate with the Zagat survey—famous for its restaurant guidebooks. WellPoint now says that the service will be available first to members in metropolitan Los Angeles, Connecticut and greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio markets. The survey tool is already available to members in these cities enrolled in the company's Blue Lumenos consumer-driven health plans. In October, when it announced the partnership, WellPoint officials said they planned to make the program nationwide within two to three years.
The service will allow patients to rate physicians using the same methods as other Zagat surveys, but with different categories: trust, the doctor's ability to communicate with the patient, and office environment and availability (how quick the office responds to a request from the patient, for example).
