The AAN Professional Association (AANPA) has co-signed a letter with the American Medical Association (AMA) and a number of other medical specialty societies urging CMS to delay application of the major revisions to the rule prohibiting the mark-up of diagnostic tests, published for the first time in the final 2008 Physician Fee Schedule on November 27, 2007. Without a delay, physicians will need to be in compliance with the new provisions starting January 1, 2008.

The groups are requesting the delay in order to evaluate the considerable impact the changes will have on health care providers. Some may need to move equipment and modify facilities in order to reach compliance with the provisions.
