New Law Provides Department of Defense MS Research Grants

November 14, 2007

On November 13, federal legislation was enacted that will make multiple sclerosis one of about 20 research areas eligible for funding through the Department of Defense's Peer Reviewed Medical Research Programs (PRMRP). The inclusion of MS in this program comes as part of the FY2008 Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which provides funding for America's military and defense-related programs. Over 25,000 veterans with MS are being treated through the VA medical system.

PRMRP, which is part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), will have $50 million to distribute in research grants in FY2008. More information on how to apply for these grants will be made available in early 2008.

For more information on the application timeline for the grant program, visit the CDMRP website.
