Six-month Delay Announced on Medicaid Tamper-Resistant Prescription Pad Mandate

October 1, 2007

Included in The Health Care Extenders Bill (HR 3668), signed into law by President Bush, is a six-month delay in implementation of the Medicaid tamper resistant prescription pad mandate. The delay addresses concerns raised in the physician community that the October 1 deadline was unreasonable and potentially harmful to Medicaid patients' access to prescribed drugs. Under the new law, all written Medicaid prescriptions must be on tamper-resistant prescription pads as of April 1, 2008.
