The AAN is now accepting applications online for the 2008 Neurology on the Hill event, taking place March 3 and 4, 2008 in Washington D.C.
No prior experience is necessary to get involved and participants will be provided with the tools and information necessary to present policy issues to their senators, representatives, and staff members. On Monday, March 3, participants will receive training focused on the Academy's priority advocacy issues. Tuesday, March 4, participants will hear from Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill and have an opportunity to use what they have learned by visiting their members of Congress.
Past Neurology on the Hill events have met with great success. The 2007 event spawned several pieces of legislation related to veterans' healthcare, focusing on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and epilepsy care. In May, Legislative Affairs Committee member John Booss, MD testified before the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs regarding the need for such legislation. The AAN is now collaborating with bill sponsors and key patient advocacy groups to build Congressional support and pass these bills into law.
