The AAN is now accepting applications for the 2013 Donald M. Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, which will be held January 17 to 20, 2013, at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, CA.

The Palatucci Forum empowers members to advocate for themselves, their patients and their profession. Participants will learn critical skills to communicate effectively with the media and political representatives and network with the AAN staff who can guide and assist them with their advocacy efforts.

Upon completion of the training, members will have developed an effective action plan, created a clear message through working with media trainers to promote community awareness of their issue, and understand the dynamics of the legislative process.

Neurologists trained by the AAN to be advocacy leaders are successfully creating positive and lasting changes for their patients and their profession across the globe. Over 10 years, 300 AAN members have been trained. Graduates of the Forum have used their enhanced skills to:

  • Promote state and federal legislation
  • Obtain financial support for research
  • Develop coalitions
  • Organize state neurologic societies
  • Lobby for fair reimbursement
  • Help draft position statements that affect future legislation

The Academy is seeking members with the desire to be agents of change to experience this award–winning program. Applications are due by September 16, 2012.
