  1. "Why I think Neuroscience Is...™ Cool"—Tell us why the brain is fascinating (ideal category for kids ages 13-17)
  2. "Why I think Neuroscience Is...™ Rewarding"—Tell us how discovery opens doors (ideal category for undergraduate and graduate students, medical students, and residents)
  3. "Why I think Neuroscience Is...™ Essential"—Tell us why research is key (ideal category for patients, families, and caregivers)
  4. "Why I think Neuroscience Is...™ Critical"—Tell us why advocacy makes an impact (ideal category for advocates, patient groups, and neurology professionals)

For guidance and inspiration, see Topic Ideas and Tips.

The Neuro Film Festival is awarding $4,000 in cash prizes!
The Grand Prize winner from each category will receive $1,000.

What is neuroscience? Neuroscience is the study of your brain and nervous system.

Why is neuroscience research important? Brain disease affects 1 in 6 people in the United States. Increasing the understanding of the brain enables scientists to develop preventions, treatments, and cures for brain diseases such Alzheimer's disease, stroke, concussion, ALS, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and others.

What is the Neuro Film Festival? The American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the world's largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals, presents the Neuro Film Festival to help build awareness and demonstrate the importance of neuroscience research by creating a community that supports neurologic research and inspires more young people to pursue careers in neuroscience.

Through the Neuro Film Festival video contest, the AAN aims to:

  • Get young minds thinking about the cool wonders of the brain
  • Foster students interest as they study the rewarding experience of gaining knowledge of the brain and all it does
  • Evolve this interest into robust careers in neuroscience research that is essential to finding cures and caring for patients with brain disease
  • Support the advocacy work that is critical in building awareness and research funding for brain disease

  1. Deadline for all video submissions is March 2, 2018, 11:59 p.m. ET.
  2. Winners will be contacted in April 2018.
  3. Winners will be announced on April 20, 2018, during the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.
